BIC GEARS UP FOR EXCITING ROUND IN BATELCO 2000CC CHALLENGE |

Bahrain International Circuit is in for yet another electrifying weekend of action as it gets set to host the second round of the Batelco 2,000cc Challenge on Friday (November 6, 2009).
Following the intense and very close racing witnessed during the opening event of the 2009/2010 season last month, the championship promises more excitement as participants gear up once again for even hotter on-track battles.
The series is being organized by the Circuit Racing Club, the Bahrain Motor Federation and Bahrain International Circuit, and is being sponsored by leading telecommunications company, Batelco, which is providing attractive prize money for the winners.
All are welcome to attend the round. Racing will begin at 9 a.m. and will continue all the way through to 5 p.m. Tickets are 2 BD for adults and 1 BD for children aged between 3 and 15 years old.
Mustafa Al Khan, the defending champion and winner of both races in Round One, said that he is ready to get back to racing, and will this round be stepping into his new car for the first time.
Al Khan has yet to compete in his new Honda Integra, which he recently purchased from Malaysia, because it was still not fully ready. But after plenty of hard work with his engineer Khalid, his brand new challenger is raring to go, and it replaces the Honda Civic hatchback with which he won last season’s title.
Al Khan expressed his delight with the new season and with the strong field of drivers currently competing. He added that his team is better this year than in the past two seasons, and he is ready to take on any competitors who aspire to steal away his crown.
Al Khan commented: “Through the experience we gained the past few years, my team and I are fully prepared to face even the most difficult circumstances, and the results we achieved in Round One are only a small indication to what we are capable of this year.”
Sherif Al Mahdy, Championship Manager at the Bahrain International Circuit, was extremely pleased with the success of the opening event.
He thanked sponsors Batelco, who have been a major reason for the success of the series since its first season in 2007, the Circuit Racing Club, the Bahrain Motor Federation, and Bahrain International Circuit – ‘The Home of Motorsport in the Middle East’.
Al Mahdy added that the Batelco 2,000cc Challenge has made a name for itself as one of the best domestic championships in Bahrain, and has become the focus of many racers, as witnessed by the broad participation this season and the many new faces across the board.
He said that is also evidence of the fantastic level the championship has reached, which continues to rise with the willingness of the drivers to continue developing their cars and the better processing of the rules and regulations by the Circuit Racing Club and the Bahrain Motor Federation.
Al Mahdy further noted that what had transpired in the first round proved that there will be plenty of surprises to look forward to over the upcoming races, starting with Round Two on Friday.
Al Khan is currently in first place on the Championship Standings with 24 points. In second place is Shaikh Jaber bin Ali Al Khalifa with 20 points, and in third place is Abdul Rahman Ghuloom with 16 points.
